Growing a Poinsettia After Christmas

Poinsettia are the epitome of Christmas. When you start to see their colourful red blooms lining the shelves of supermarkets, garden centres and all manner of shops, you know it’s nearly the festive season. But how do you keep your poinsettia alive and flourishing after Christmas? It’s all too easy to neglect them and let them die off but with a little care and attention you can keep them growing healthily for much longer.

One of the key things with these plants is temperature. They need to be warm enough and it can be tempting to keep them on the windowsill, but actually, this can be very damaging for their leaves. The cold glass is something of a shock to them so it’s better to steer clear of window spaces. Pick a spot that is warm and sunny but away from the window, keep the soil moist, and you should have a winning formula for your poinsettia.
