Looking after hanging baskets

The most important thing is to remember to frequently water your hanging baskets as they will dry out very quickly during hot, sunny weather. The best time to do this is early morning and in the evening when the day is cooler and when water will not evaporate so quickly. Make sure that your baskets have good drainage as you do not want plants to become water logged. Do consider the location of your hanging baskets. A sheltered position away from strong winds is ideal as winds will dry out the compost in your baskets and may damage delicate stems and flower heads.

In order to have healthy plants and beautiful blooms the whole summer long, make sure you apply some kind of liquid feed, even if you are also using a slow release fertiliser. Don’t forget to deadhead flowers as soon as they start to wither and fade as this will encourage more flowers to bloom.
